Travellers interested in cultural and artistic pursuits might find a trip to Munich is satisfactory.
Tourists from all over the world have been seen to flock to Munich, Germany, with a view to enjoying its museums, galleries and exhibitions, according to one expert.
Klaus Lohmann, director of UK and Ireland for the German National Tourist Office, said the Passion Play - which is only held once a decade - pulled in a lot of visitors recently.
"Munich has definitely profited from its worldwide reputation as a city of art and culture ... good connections with no frills carriers to Memmingen, in the west of Munich, also help," he added.
Modern art halls, traditional ateliers and an expanding heritage district have also been popular - in particular the Brandhorst museum, which opened in 2009, has helped the city's reputation.
Mr Lohmann's comments come in response to figures from STR Global which revealed that Munich achieved the highest occupancy increase during June 2010.
The hotel occupancy results increased by 26.3 per cent to 77 per cent during last month in the city, while Frankfurt had the second-largest rise of 20.7 per cent.
Indeed, many consumers seem to be heading to countries whose currency is the euro, if a statement from M&S Travel Money is anything to go by.
It stated that more than half of its orders for foreign cash - which usually increase by more than 60 per cent during the
summer - will be for the single currency.
Anyone thinking of visiting a European country like Germany should consider taking out
travel insurance prior to leaving the UK.
