Travellers searching for beautiful views and stunning architecture might take one expert's advice to visit Lithuania.
Tourists who just love to uncover the natural beauty and splendour of their chosen holiday destination could do well to take one expert's advice and visit Lithuania.
Augusta Jaudegyte, UK director for the Lithuanian National Tourism Office, explained that the Vilnius Old Town boasts stunning architecture, splendid views of the surrounding landscape and plenty of "hidden charms" such as secluded courtyards and shops run by local people.
"If you like to feel the free spirit of artists", then the small district of Uzupis could hold appeal. It boasts plenty of artists and their wares - but they can only trade independently on April Fools' Day, so it could be worth scheduling a flight for early next year to take advantage of the unusual law.
However, once they have arrived, visitors are advised to explore the area by foot, Vilnius is "very compact" and the best trips should begin at Gediminas Hill for its vistas, continuing to Cathedral Square to embark on some retail therapy, Ms Jaudegyte continued.
Indeed, holiday insurance customers wishing to take home some locally-sourced souvenirs may wish to focus their search on Pilies Street or Stikliai Street where outlets are stocked with work from the city's resident designers.
Whether an excursion does take place during spring, or any other time of the year, visitors to Lithuania are sure to be in great company as 823,196 foreign visitors have arrived in the country during the first half of 2010 - those arriving from the UK increased by 5.1 per cent when compared with the same period during the previous year.
