Annual holiday insurance 'could save time and money'
People who like to travel are urged to check and see if an annual holiday insurance policy will be the most cost-effective option for them, an industry figure has advised.
"This will cover you on any holidays as well as those last-minute shopping weekends - and having one policy done for the year saves time too," said Suzi Fenn, travel product manager for Aviva.
She went on to say that jetting off without any travel insurance cover could lead to a number of possibilities, from missing out on a trip altogether to a holiday being cut short due to the cost of any medical treatments that might be incurred.
Ms Fenn reminded travellers that it is not just the cost of the treatment, but the amount of money involved in getting back home after an accident that could add up to thousands - in one instance, £86,000 was the bill for a traveller who needed an air ambulance.
Emma Holyer, media relations manager of general insurance at LV=, added that the cost of a broken leg and transport home from a holiday in the USA could come to as much as £50,000 without an insurance policy.
Over the six weeks preceding June 24th, late holiday bookings surged by 20 per cent - making up around 20 per cent of all travel plans - according to figures from youtravel.com.
