'All-time highs in foreign holidays' taken by Brits
Holidaymakers should make sure they have sufficient travel insurance cover, as statistics have revealed Brits are taking record numbers of trips abroad.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for ABTA - the Travel Association, said: "We are seeing all-time highs for the number of trips we are taking abroad."
Despite a six per cent fall in the number of people choosing to travel in the last twelve months, the UK is still seeing record numbers of foreign holidays, he added.
UK travel insurance customers took 39.6 million trips abroad in 1994, compared to 70.2 million in 2008 and 66 million in the last twelve months, he added.
Mr Tipton went on to say people had not "rushed out to book a holiday" this year due to concerns and insecurities caused by the recession, but thought the late booking market would see an increase in sales.
Some 57 per cent of UK travellers stated they would be heading to non-eurozone destinations for their holidays in 2009 - with the remainder sticking to their favourite European resorts - according to a report by On the Beach.
