Alhama de Granada is a "gorgeous town" for a Spanish break
An ancient spa resort in Andalucia has been recommended by a travel writer for its Spanish charisma, picturesque surroundings and inexpensive tapas.
The "gorgeous town" of Alhama de Granada is "full of charm and character and beautifully situated on the edge of a gorge", Richard Bigg wrote for the Telegraph.
Heading for a small glass of local wine and tapas at a family-run terrace restaurant - La Seguiriya - is the first thing he does when back in the town, he said.
Lovers of meat should try El Cortijo - a restaurant "not for the faint hearted" he advised - as it rears and prepares its own produce.
Travel insurance customers heading to the town should visit the hot springs to take a dip, continued Mr Bigg.
Alhama de Granada is located approximately 53 kilometres from Granada and is situated at the top of a ravine carved out by the Rio Alham.
