Many airports have ambiguous names and could easily confuse travellers as to their location, it has been revealed.
Holiday insurance holders who do not want to miss their flights may wish to be careful when planning their journey to the airport.
This advice comes as research by Skyscanner revealed many airport names are deceiving to travellers and are not necessarily located in the city they are named after.
For example, those who are not clued up on their UK geography could be forgiven for thinking that London Oxford airport was located in the capital - and not 60 miles away.
Other so-called "ambiguous airports" include Munich West (Memmingen), which is some 70 miles from the city and Oslo (Torp), which is 68 miles from the destination.
"Double check the airport location before your book, especially when flying on low-cost airlines," advised Barry Smith, cofounder and director of the company.
While it is important to research the airport location you are travelling to, it is also important to take some time to look up the customs of your holiday destination.
This was recently emphasised by Trip Advisor, which cited figures from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office noting that unprepared travellers could run the risk of getting into trouble abroad, particularly in countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
