Winter travel chaos has ensued as a result of snow showers across Europe.
Anyone thinking of jetting off abroad over the next few days should keep up to date with weather reports as heavy snowfall has caused winter travel chaos across Europe.
The
Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has stated delays "are likely" and passengers could do well to contact their intended airline to see whether they should turn up for their flight.
Gatwick Airport will remain closed until 06:00 GMT tomorrow (December 3rd) when the situation will be reviewed, while Robin Hood Doncaster, Durham Tees and Edinburgh hubs are also shut at the time of writing.
Travellers heading to Southampton Airport will find it closed until 14:00 GMT today and
BAA has advised passengers not to turn up at the airport, urging people to contact their carrier for the latest information from home instead.
The FCO has also recommended people check their travel insurance policy documents to ensure they cover delays and cancellations, as such situations could become increasingly likely over the next few days.
Indeed, the
Met Office has reported that snow and ice will continue to spread across the country and temperatures fell as low as minus 21 degrees C in one part of Scotland last night.
An advisory notice of severe or extreme weather has been issued for some areas in the UK and anyone setting out on a journey from much of east and north England, Scotland and Wales should look out for ice on the roads.
More snow could cause additional winter travel chaos for commuters in Northern Ireland and Scotland as the body predicts heavy showers of the white stuff and "widespread icy stretches".
