Advice for travellers affected by swine flu
If holidaymakers are unable to travel due to contracting the virus, or require medical treatment for swine flu when abroad, they will be able to claim on their holiday insurance using their unique ID number along with the label.
The label will show the travellers' name and date of issue of the anti-flu medication and can be used in the absence of a written document from a medical practitioner.
Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance and health, said: "Travel insurance is there to help people who are too ill to travel or who become ill on holiday."
The National Pandemic Flu Service will only administer the drugs for treating the virus to those who are genuinely showing symptoms, so for that reason, ABI members will accept the label and ID number as proof of diagnosis for a travel insurance claim, he explained.
Abta - The Travel Association stated on July 20th that taking out a travel insurance policy as close to booking as possible was "essential".
