Those who like a trip with a difference have chosen their destinations for this year.
People who do not like to go on a conventional holiday to the likes of Florida or Spain are choosing their destinations for 2012 when they head off on adventure holidays, with some surprise destinations proving to be popular.
Many of the people who like to take holidays which involve going on treks, or perhaps mountain climbing are turning to countries which may not have been too popular in the past.
"There are loads of exciting adventure travel hotspots emerging for 2012. I've seen a particular interest in the ‘stans’, with readers beginning to report back from treks to Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan. Also southern Europe – for example Macedonia and Montenegro, and Romania in eastern Europe," said Rosie Fuller, editor of Adventure Travel magazine.
It was reported recently by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) that people will be looking for more unique holidays in 2012, such as those which offer them a different kind of experience, or the kind of trips which let them get out and do stuff, as opposed to just sitting at the side of a swimming pool.
This could be one of the biggest contributing factors to the rise in a different kind of destination for many people in 2012. However, those who are new to adventure holidays, and are perhaps taking their first plunge into the holiday type, should remember that it is important that they have good travel insurance before they head off in 2012, as they will need to be covered in case they find themselves injured or ill at any time.
Other destinations are also growing in popularity this year, and it was reported recently that the death of Kim Jong-Il and the subsequent media attention has led to an increase in enquiries about holidays to North Korea.
