Tourists looking for a fun shopping experience could head to the markets in the Ghanaian city of Accra.
The Ghanaian city of Accra has been recommended to tourists who are looking for a fun shopping experience during their time away from home.
Alan Brown, sales and marketing director at dmAFRICA, a specialist pan-African destination management company, stated that bartering is key for the markets in the city as all prices on goods can be negotiated.
He pointed out that Accra's shopping areas are open every day, so they could be a great place to go for those who book holidays to Ghana.
But Mr Brown recommended people head to a country town on market day, as this will give them the chance to purchase all manner of items, from CDs to fabric, beads and musical instruments.
"Kente cloth, drums, carvings and masks and sacred stools can be found on the streets of most cities and towns," he said.
The dmAFRICA sales and marketing director added that a sacred stool is one of the most popular things to buy for those who go shopping in Accra.
He explained that they are "various and made according to different traditions and religious motifs", while selecting the right one "is a complex matter", although guide books are also available to help with the choice.
According to the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2011, which was published earlier in the year, Ghana was named in sixth place in the Top Emerging Destination category.
This means only a small number of readers of the publication headed to the African nation, but those who did would recommend it to other travellers.
