ABTA's new Travel Buddy alert and information service will help holidaymakers while they are abroad, according to Which?.
ABTA has made a positive move in launching a new information and alerts service for holidaymakers, according to one consumer group.
The Travel Buddy service was announced earlier this month and offers vital travel information on matters such as legal issues and
travel insurance via email before Britons set off on holiday.
It also sends emergency SMS alerts should any major crises occur in the country that travellers are visiting.
Lorna Cowan, editor of Which? Holiday, said that the service will be useful as it could help travellers in a variety of situations, whether their airline has gone bust or the country they are in suffers from a natural disaster.
"We all go away on holiday and some people don't keep in contact with family and friends when they go on holiday. So if someone has your details, then it will be useful," she remarked, adding that take-up of the service is likely to be high as it is free to use.
