The association launches its "Get Fit for Ski" campaign.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has launched its new campaign aimed at promoting fitness through skiing this year, just as resorts across Europe and the US see the first snowfall of this winter, turning slopes into winter wonderlands.
ABTA estimates that there will be around a million Brits travelling abroad to hit the slopes this year, and is urging them to check their travel insurance policies, as well as promoting health and safety tips and giving information on how to warm up before they start to ski.
Nikki White, head of destinations and sustainability, ABTA, said that preparing before heading out on the slopes is the best way to ensure safety.
"It's not unusual to be out on the slopes for 4-6 hours at a time, yet many people go straight into a ski or snowboarding holiday without doing any training or preparation first. Preparing before you go can help prevent injury and ensure you don't miss out on the fun."
New ABTA research has discovered that only 41 per cent of Brits heading out for skiing holidays will check that their policy covers activities such as skiing and paragliding, as it stressed the importance of not taking risks with winter breaks.
It has also offered travellers a range of tips for making sure that any skiing holiday goes without a hitch this winter. The association says practicing, warming up and ensuring that they know their limits are the most effective measures to making sure the holiday is enjoyable and does not end up in tears.
Recently, MoneySupermarket stressed the importance of the correct travel cover for people who intend to go skiing, especially with the increased risk of injury and damage to personal property.
