ABTA: Holidaymakers must do their research
It is important for British holidaymakers to research the customs and laws of their destination to avoid getting in a tight spot overseas, the Travel Association (ABTA) has asserted.
An ABTA spokeswoman noted that people need to be more aware of local laws before they set off on holiday.
"In the last few years we have had some concerns about [the number of people getting into trouble abroad]," she said.
She added that countries such as Greece can pose a problem for uninformed holidaymakers. The spokeswoman explained that while the bar and club culture is promoted to attract tourists, the country is in reality "very conservative".
But a bit of careful planning means travellers will be "less likely to get into trouble" she said.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office's ongoing Know Before You Go campaign emphasises the importance of destination research, as well as ensuring all aspects of the holiday are covered under a comprehensive travel insurance policy.
