A cruise 'could be a competitive travel option this summer'
Travel insurance customers may wish to consider a cruise holiday this summer as a cost-effective travel option, a travel provider has advised.
"A lot of ships will take dual currency. Also, price-wise cruises now compete very favourably with package holidays, even for families," said a spokesperson from Midlands Co-op Travel.
"The superb onboard facilities and the variety of destinations are very appealing," she added.
She went on to say holidaymakers had become very price-savvy in 2009 and were looking at all aspects of travel including the amount of spending money they want to take with them to their resort.
According to research carried out by flight comparison site Skyscanner, Thailand, the USA and Portugal had seen the biggest rises in traveller interest in 2009 compared to last year.
Despite these results, the representative from Midlands Co-op Travel thought not all families would be looking for a long-haul flight and traditional European destinations would still be popular this summer.
A recent report revealed the number of problems experience by people from the UK who did not take out travel insurance saw an increase of 38 per cent this year - totalling almost £90 million in lost claims, according to InsureandGo.
