Security Increased Ahead of Presidential Elections

Togolese authorities indicated on 9 February 2010 that they will increase security throughout the country ahead of the upcoming 28 February presidential election. Approximately 12,000 security force troops will be deployed in the country in an effort to ensure security and to oversee election-related events. Officials also indicated that all candidates will have specific security details and that security forces will monitor all rallies and political events before and after the vote.
