Vendors block Bangkok road in protest

More than 3,000 protesters, mostly vendors, blocked the road in front of the Port Authority of Thailand in Bangkok on 24 July 2008, after the agency refused to renew the vendors' contracts. The vendors, who operate at the Klongtoey market, chose to remain in the area, against the will of the police officials, while representatives spoke to the port's chief. There were no reports of violence during the protest.
