SECURITY INCREASED IN BANGKOK

16 Sep 2009
Authorities have increased security in Bangkok in light of the upcoming politically sensitive anniversary of the coup that ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in 2006. Security has also been increased ahead of the planned mass rally at the Royal Plaza, set to begin in the early afternoon on 19 September and extend through midnight. Police officials have received orders to set up several checkpoints around sensitive locations, including the Constitution Court, the Administrative Court, the Election Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. Residences of high-level city councilors will also have an increased security presence.
