Security increased at the Stock Exchange of Thailand

27 Oct 2008
Security was increased at the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) on 27 October 2008 as hundreds of anti-alcohol groups led a protest against the government's plan to list a Thai beer company on the stock exchange. The SET is located on Ratchadaphisek Road in the Klong Toey district in Bangkok. Meanwhile, the major opposition force, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), announced on 27 October that it will not block access to Parliament on 28 October when the constitutional changes, which they oppose, are on the agenda. However, on 27 October the PAD blocked traffic around the Government House during morning rush hour at approximately 0600 local time. Portions of Rajdamnoen Nok Avenue, Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge, areas around the Royal Plaza, Phitsanulok Road, Wang Daeng and near the Royal Turf Club of Thailand were all blocked. Some roads remain closed.
