SECURITY ACT MAY BE INVOKED FOR RALLY
25 Aug 2009
Thai government officials announced on 25 August 2009 that they may invoke the Internal Security Act in order to maintain peace during an anti-government rally planned for 30 August. Parliament is expected to debate whether to allow for such security measures to be implemented in light of the rally, which could potentially affect security in and around the Government House. The United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) stated that its members will protest at the Royal Plaza. The government stated that it will not impose a deadline for the length of the protest; security officials stated, however, that they will not tolerate any disruptions or violence during the event.
