10,000 demonstrate outside British Embassy

More than 10,000 members of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) peacefully demonstrated outside the British Embassy in Bangkok on 18 August 2008, demanding the extradition of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The rally made its way through the busy streets of central Bangkok and blocked Ploenchit Road in front of the embassy at approximately 1030 local time; traffic was severely disrupted as a result. Protest leaders presented a letter to the British ambassador at 1110 local time and stated that they expect a reply within the next seven days. PAD officials stated that another rally is scheduled for 22 August near the Kiakkai Intersection in Nonthaburi to protest the relocation of the Parliament building to that area.
