Typhoon Sinlaku is expected to briefly hit the northern tip of Taiwan by the 12-14 September weekend and is then expected to curve north-northwest shortly thereafter, tracking at 6 mph/5 kt. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, Sinlaku has weakened slightly but is expected to gain in strength over the next 24 hours, potentially reaching super typhoon status. As of 0900 UTC, Sinlaku was located approximately 375 mi/ 600 km south-southwest of Naha, Okinawa, and had maximum sustained winds of 138 mph/120 kt, with gusts of up to 167 mph/145 kt.
