Typhoon Kalmaegi continues to move toward Taiwan on 17 July 2008. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, as of 0900 UTC, Typhoon Kalmaegi was located approximately 145 mi/230 km south-southeast of Taipei. Kalmaegi currently has maximum sustained winds of 104 mph/90 kt. Wind gusts measure at 127 mph/110 kt and the storm has been moving north-northwest at 10 mph/9 kt. The typhoon will strengthen and is expected to make landfall in southeastern China between 0300-0500 UTC on 18 July after passing over the northern tip of Taiwan near Taipei. After hitting China, Kalmaegi is expected to turn to the northeast, passing east of Shanghai and crossing over the Yellow Sea toward South Korea.
