Protesters gather over visit from Chinese official

On 4 November 2008 hundreds of demonstrators gathered at various locations throughout Taipei to protest a visit by top Chinese government official Chen Yunlin. Taiwanese negotiators met with Yunlin to discuss a possible trade agreement that would bring the two longtime rivals closer diplomatically. Several protesters rented a room at the same hotel where Yunlin is staying during his visit and unfurled an anti-China banner. A group of protesters also tried to confront Yunlin as he departed from Taipei's Taoyuan International Airport (RCTP/TPE), although police officers were able to disperse the demonstration without disruption.
