Hong Kong will relax travel restrictions on Taiwanese travellers

15 Oct 2008
On 15 October 2008 officials in Hong Kong announced that beginning in 2009, Hong Kong will relax travel restrictions on Taiwanese travelers. The current restrictions limit Taiwan residents to two entry applications within a 30-day time period and a 14-day maximum stay. This will now be extended to 30 days for those holding specific visas and the limit on entry applications will be waived. This action is seen as a further thawing of the relationship between China and Taiwan since the Kuomintang (KMT) Nationalist Party won the Taiwanese presidential election in March 2008.
