Heavy rain causes massive disruption
13 Mar 2009
Heavy rains today have forced the closure of businesses, offices and schools, and led to massive delays in transit in the capital - Paramaribo. Many public transport workers refused to travel their usual routes, leaving many travellers stranded. Several motorists accidentally navigated their vehicles into canals, as flooded roads and canals were indistinguishable. The Commewijne and Saramacca zones of Paramaribo were the most affected by flooding. The rain will likely continue until 14-15 March.
