Bomb explosion in Colombo kills 2

A suicide bombing targeted Sri Lanka's air force headquarters in Colombo on 2 January 2009. The explosion occurred at the entrance to the facility on Slave Island and caused significant damage to a nearby civilian bus. At least two people were killed, and more than 30 others were injured. The separatist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is suspected of having perpetrated the attack, which comes shortly after the Sri Lankan military's occupation of Kilinochchi, which has served as the LTTE's political and military base since 1998.
