Bomb damages the rear portion of a passenger bus
16 Sep 2008
A small bomb damaged the rear portion of a passenger bus in a residential area of Colombo on 16 September 2008. Authorities stated that the bus was evacuated shortly before the bomb detonated because several alert passengers noticed an unattended parcel and notified the bus driver. Although all of the 60 passengers were moved away from the parked bus, at least four people sustained minor injuries from the concussive force of the blast. Police investigators have cordoned off the area and are collecting evidence at the scene. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Transportation authorities told local reporters that they believe Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) militants were behind the bombing. LTTE rebels have been blamed for many bombings in and around the city of Colombo.
