African immigrants go on rampage over stabbing

African immigrants in the town of Roquetas de Mar, located in the Almeria province, went on a rampage over the 6-7 September weekend after a Senegalese man was stabbed to death. The stabbing occurred during an altercation potentially involving drugs or an unpaid debt. The rioters threw stones and glass bottles at police officers and burned rubber tires. The rioters also threw stones at emergency vehicles after luring them with a fraudulent emergency call. Two houses allegedly belonging to the man who murdered the immigrant were razed to the ground. Police officials reported that more than eight African immigrants were arrested in relation to the violence. Statistics indicate that the majority of residents in Roquetas de Mar are immigrants.
