2 trains collide in Madrid
26 Jun 2009
A commuter train backed into another train between the Fanjul and Aluche train stations in southwestern Madrid. The incident occurred at approximately 0740 local time, during the morning rush hour commute. At least 57 people were injured; 12 of them were taken to the hospital to be examined, although none of them sustained life-threatening injuries. The two trains were carrying a total of 1,200 passengers. Service into Madrid along the railway line, which leads to Casa de Campo at the end of Madrid's Metro Line 5, has been suspended until further notice while authorities conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
