Tropical Storm Dianmu passes through South Korea

Tropical Storm Dianmu unleashed heavy rains and high winds as it passed through South Korea’s southern coast on 10 August 2010. South Korean authorities stated that at least three people were killed as the storm system caused flash floods in the Busan metropolitan area. According to meteorologists at Wilkens Weather Technologies, Dianmu had maximum sustained winds of 54 mph/49 kt as the storm moved north-northeast over South Korea into the Sea of Japan. As of 0900 UTC on 11 August, the weather system was located around 80 mi/128 km northeast of Busan heading on a track through the Sea of Japan toward the Japanese coast. Dianmu is expected to strengthen before making landfall in the Hokkaido and Honshu prefectures of northern Japan on 11 August.
