North Korea closes its border with The South
13 Mar 2009
North Korea closed its border with South Korea today for the second time in a week. The closure stranded hundreds of workers employed at Kaesong, a joint industrial complex just to the north of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). North Korean officials did not officially announce that they were closing the border, rather they halted approval for travel for hundreds of individuals scheduled to enter the country.
Meanwhile, South Korea indicated that North Korea could potentially be readying to launch a missile, rather than a satellite, as Pyongyang claims. The U.S. and Japan have stated that they could shoot down either a missile or satellite, depending on the circumstance of the launch; Pyongyang responded that such an action would be a declaration of war on North Korea.
