Public Service Association (PSA) began a nationwide strike
29 Jul 2010
Members of the Public Service Association (PSA) began a nationwide strike on 29 July 2010 to pressure the government for higher wages. Reports indicate that approximately 80 percent of the union’s 200,000 members are currently participating in the labor action, and an additional 700,000 public sector employees could join the strike on 4 August. On 29 July PSA members held protests and marches in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. Although no violence was reported during the demonstrations, several roads were closed, which significantly disrupted traffic. A similar protest is expected to take place in Pretoria on 30 July
