Johannesburg bus drivers strike leaving thousands of commuters stranded
28 Apr 2009
Johannesburg metro bus drivers began a strike on 28 April 2009. The strike left thousands of commuters stranded as none of the city’s approximately 600 buses was operating. The drivers’ union is expected to meet with Metrobus on 28 April in an effort to resolve the dispute, but it remains unclear how long the strike action will last. The drivers stressed that if their salary demands are not met, they will begin another strike that will include other Johannesburg departments, including the Johannesburg metro police force.
