Pirates attack U.S luxury cruise ship

Sources reported on 1 December 2008 that Somali pirates attacked a U.S. luxury cruise ship carrying more than 1,000 people, including British and U.S. nationals, in the Gulf of Aden on 30 November. Two pirate vessels approached the ocean liner, which promptly took evasive measures to avoid the attackers. One of the pirate vessels came within 300 yards and opened fire on the cruise ship. No one was injured in the incident. The cruise ship was en-route to Oman from Singapore in a 32-day voyage.
