GUNMEN ATTEMPT TO HIJACK FLIGHT TO DJIBOUTI
04 Nov 2009
Two Somali gunmen attempted to hijack a commercial flight bound for Djibouti on 2 November 2009. Transportation authorities stated that the two hijackers had snuck onto the Daallo Airlines flight from Somalia with the intention of kidnapping two German journalists who were among the passengers onboard. The two suspects allegedly demanded that the flight be diverted to the coastal city of Las Khorey in the Puntland region of Somalia. Reports indicate that the pilot fooled the hijackers and diverted the flight back to Bosaso where waiting police officers took the two suspects into custody. One of the two hijackers was shot in the leg. The flight later continued on to Djibouti without further disruption.
