The Ski Resort

Morzine is a traditional mountain town sprawling along both sides of a river gorge. In winter, under a blanket of snow, its chalet-style buildings look charming, and in spring the village quickly takes on a spruce appearance. Morzine is a town where getting from A to B can be tricky – the best plan is to stay in the centre of town or near one of the gondolas.

The Ski Slopes

The local slopes suit intermediates well, with excellent areas for beginners and near-beginners too. Morzine is not an ideal base for the Portes du Soleil main circuit but it has an extensive local area of slopes shared with Les Gets. Morzine has a very low average height, and it can rain here when it is snowing higher up. But because you ski on grassy pastures (rather than the rocky terrain of many higher resorts) you need relatively little depth of snow for satisfactory coverage. Queues are at resort level, with long waits at peak periods for both the gondolas out of the resort and for the cable-car from Les Prodains to Avoriaz, and there are queues for lift passes too. Queues up the mountain are not usually a problem.

Après Ski

There are some excellent mountain restaurant huts. There is a reasonable choice in the town for eating out and nightlife is good here by French resort standards. Morzine is a family resort, and the village ambience tends to be fairly subdued – but there is plenty of après-ski action.
