Resort information for Klosters
Klosters is a comfortable, quiet village with a much more appealing Alpine flavour than Davos with which it shares its very extensive slopes. Klosters Platz is the main focus – a collection of upmarket, traditional-style hotels around the railway station, at the foot of the steep, wooded slopes of Gotschna. The village spreads along the valley road for quite a way before fading into the countryside.
Most of the resort runs are on open slopes above steeper woodland. A cable-car from the railway station at Platz – queues can be a problem here at weekends and peak times – takes you up the mountain. For snow reliability, it’s usually good higher up, but the home runs are quite low and not so reliable.
There are a number of atmospheric mountain restaurants or huts in the woods above the village. Good restaurants abound in the village, but a reporter comments that there is a shortage of the cheap and cheerful variety. The après-ski in the village is good. Klosters is an attractive base for walking and cross-country skiing, and tobogganing is popular. There is a leisure centre with an ice rink, and some hotel pools are open. Don’t be put off by the Royal connection: Klosters is not particularly exclusive, and it does have a lot going for it.
