Resort information for Champéry
Champéry is a picture-postcard village of old wooden chalets. Friendly and relaxed, it would be ideal for families if it wasn’t separated from its slopes by a steep, fragmented mountainside.
Once you get up to them, the local slopes are open, friendly and relaxing. Its sunny slopes are part of the big Portes du Soleil circuit, which links Avoriaz, Chatel (in France), Les Crosets, Champoussin and Morgins. The snow on the north-facing French side of the link with Avoriaz is usually better than on the sunnier Swiss side to the south. The local Champéry area would benefit from more snowmaking. Les Crosets is still a bottleneck at peak times, and if snow is poor, end-of-the-day queues for the cable-car down are inescapable.
There are a few delightful mountain restaurants. Eating out in the resort is limited, and two of the best places for local specialities are just outside the village: Canines des Rives and Auberge Le Paradis. The après-ski is fairly quiet, yet plenty to do off the slopes with an ice-sports centre, indoor pool and tennis courts, and also ice climbing.
