Resort information for Arosa

Arosa is high and remote and in a sheltered basin at the head of a beautiful wooded valley, in sharp contrast to the open slopes above it. Its slopes are spread widely over two main sectors and are situated in a wide, open bowl, facing north-east to south-east, with all the runs returning eventually to the village at the bottom.

All the slopes are above the tree line, except those just above Obersee. The slopes are quite high, but the Weisshorn sector gets a lot of sun; the shadier Hornli slopes hold their snow well. Arosa does not suffer from serious queues – even in half-term.

There’s a reasonable choice of mountain restaurants, several equipped with seriously indulgent sunbeds on which you can lunch while sunbathing. The main resort development is a pretty spot, centred as you might guess on a frozen lake, but spoilt by the surrounding block-like buildings. Arosa is quiet; its relaxed ambience attracts an unpretentiously well-heeled clientele of families and older people. Very few of them are British. Shopping is limited. Most restaurants are hotel-based, some with a very high reputation. Après-ski is quite lively.
