Gunmen open fire on minibus carrying foreigners

27 May 2009
Unidentified gunmen opened fire yesterday on a minibus in Jubail, a city located in eastern Saudi Arabia. The minibus was carrying five passengers, including three Britons, one Saudi and one Syrian national, in addition to the Pakistani driver, but it is not known from where the bus originated or to where it was travelling. The gunmen were reportedly travelling in a vehicle behind the minibus, from where they opened fire. Few other details are available, and it is not known if the minibus was intentionally followed or was a target of opportunity, though it seems less likely that it was the latter. Jubail is an important industrial city in the Eastern province, where many foreigners, especially Westerners, reside and work.
