Grenade attack on Memorial Centre

Unidentified assailants attacked Kigali's Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center with a grenade on the evening of 15 April 2009. One civilian was seriously injured in the attack. No further information has been released on the details of the attack or suspects, but witnesses reported seeing six possible suspects being herded into a police vehicle shortly after the incident. The attack was the second assault on the country's biggest memorial site, which is home to the remains of more than 300,000 victims of the country's 1994 genocide. The first attack took place during the country's genocide commemoration week in April 2008; one police officer was killed in that incident.
