Assailants launch two simultaneous grenade attacks in Kigali
29 Dec 2008
Unidentified assailants launched two simultaneous grenade attacks in Kigali on 28 December 2008. The first attack took place at the Kinamba Two junction, located near the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center. The second attack occurred at the Six Heures bar, which is located approximately 0.5 mi/1 km from the memorial center on Nyabugogo road in the city center. The attacks took place at approximately 2030 local time and seriously injured at least six people. The victims were taken to the National Police Hospital in Kacyiru and the Kigali University Hospital for treatment. This is the second time in 2008 that grenade attacks occur in Kigali. In April 2008 assailants threw a grenade at the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center during a commemoration ceremony, killing one police officer. No suspects have been identified in either incident, and it is not yet clear if the attacks are related.
