SUICIDE ATTACK KILLS AND INJURES OVER 130 PEOPLE

A suicide truck bomber attacked a police station in the city of Nazran, the capital of the southern Republic of Ingushetia, on the morning of 17 August 2009. The attack, which occurred shortly before 0910 local time, killed at least 20 people and injured 118 others. Nearby apartment buildings sustained heavy damage in the attack. The bomb exploded after the driver of the truck drove through the gates of the station. Police officers were assembled outside the building at the time of the attack. According to local authorities, the bomb consisted of at least 44 lb/20 kg of explosives. The explosion sparked a fire, which in ignited ammunition in the station's weapons’ storeroom.
