Russia claims Georgian intelligence officers were planning terrorist attacks

11 Aug 2008
Russian security officials claimed on 10 August 2008 that Georgian intelligence officers were planning terrorist attacks. A total of 10 officers were arrested after they were allegedly caught spying on military facilities. Meanwhile, the same day, reports indicated that security in Moscow's train and metro stations had been increased due to the ongoing conflict in Georgia. There is a visible increased security presence at all of the city's main metro stations, and security officers are reportedly checking the travel documents of all passengers arriving from the Caucasus region. There is no indication that the increased security measures have disrupted travel in to or out of the capital, and the city has been largely unaffected by the fighting in Georgia.
