A Boeing 737-300 operated by the Russian carrier KD-Avia Airlines crash-landed at Kaliningrad Airport (UMKK/KGD) at 2310 local time (2010 UTC) on 1 October 2008. The aircraft was arriving in Kaliningrad from Barcelona, Spain, when the landing gear failed to extend and the pilot had to land on the fuselage. The pilots also reported a malfunction of the aircraft's flaps but were able to rectify this prior to the landing. The landing did not spark a fire, and the 138 passengers and six crewmembers on board were not injured. The airport closed following the incident and remained so as of midday local time on 2 October
