Direct Travel Insurance, has decided to make public its claims figures as a reminder of the potential risks attached to going away without adequate travel insurance, both for UK and overseas trips.
These figures show the real cost of travel insurance claims made from January to December 2008. Those travelling with insufficient or without cover may find themselves out of pocket, should a similar incident happen:
Average cost of claims made per person:
Jonathan Cooper, Managing Director at Direct Travel Insurance said: “Travel insurance is an absolute must for anyone planning a trip, however short. I strongly believe that travellers should be made aware of the risks they could face and the real cost of claims, from a stolen suitcase to a lost passport. As for the cost of medical care overseas, even for treating a relatively minor injury, it can easily reach hundreds of Pounds.
A five-day Gold Standard Single Trip cover to Europe including protection for the above incidents costs £7 per person with Direct Travel Insurance or £14 for a family of four.
