Warsaw Airport Suffers Power failure

17 Feb 2010
Frederic Chopin Airport (EPWA/WAW) in Warsaw experienced a power failure at its air traffic control center just after 1000 local time (0900 GMT) on 17 February 2010. The outage prevented controllers from communicating with aircraft, halting takeoffs and causing extensive delays. Eight international flights were diverted to airports in Gdansk, Krakow and Katowice. Although the situation was resolved as of 1300 local time (1200 GMT), schedule disruptions were expected to continue for at least 14 hours.
