VOLCANIC ASH COULD AFFECT AIR TRAVEL

On 14 December 2009 the Philippine government ordered the evacuation of thousands of people living around the Mayon volcano in Albay province, after volcanologists warned that an eruption could take place within the week. Local reports indicate that the volcano has been spewing lava and ash more than 330 ft/100 m into the air. Lava has also been seen flowing down the southeastern slope of the volcano. The governor of Albay stated that he has ordered the evacuation of nearly 30,000 people living within a 4-5 mi/6-8 km distance around the volcano.
