Tropical storm over the Philippines gathers strength

According to meteorologists, Tropical Storm Nangka has moved over central Philippines and continues to strengthen. The storm is tracking west-northwest at 10 mph/9 kt; it is currently located approximately 400 mi/640 km southeast of Manila and is expected to gain strength within the next 48 hours. Nangka has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph/35 kt, with gusts of up to 52 mph/45 kt.
