08 May 2009
Tropical Storm Chan-Hom continues to hit the northern Philippines today. The storm had recorded wind speeds of 93 mph and gusts of 115 mph. At least 26 people have been killed by high winds, torrential rains and mudslides caused by the storm. Several main roads and bridges on the northern island of Luzon have been washed out or blocked by fallen trees, and thousands of houses were destroyed in Pangasinan province, which was one of the worst hit areas. The storm is expected to begin moving toward China, having weakened slightly as it passed over Luzon and meteorologists project that it will continue to do so over the next several days.
